Guide to Writing and Formatting Reports and Theses

For Teachers, Students, and Researchers

Objectives

This guide will help you write and format documents according to the standards set by your institution, addressing both writing methodology and formatting guidelines, as well as ensuring accuracy in document layout and adherence to institutional standards.

The basic guidelines in this document are essential standards that must be followed. Please study the details in this manual thoroughly. If you have any questions, please contact the Cooperative Education Center or the Cooperative Education Advisory Committee Chair of your faculty.

Cooperative Education Report Formatting Guidelines

To ensure that all cooperative education reports follow the same guidelines, students must adhere to the following formatting standards:

Printing
  • Paper: Use white paper without rule lines, A4 size, 80 gsm thickness. Print on one side only, except for tables or other illustrations that may require different paper sizes.
  • Font Color: Use black text throughout the entire document to maintain consistency.
  • Copying: Use photocopying or any other method of comparable quality.
Font and Font Size

Cooperative education reports may be written in either Thai or English. Use Angsana New font throughout the document with single line spacing. The following font sizes and styles should be used:

  • Chapter titles and "Chapter...": 20 points, Bold
  • Section headings and section numbers: 18 points, Bold
  • Subsection headings and subsection numbers: 16 points, Bold
  • Main text and details: 16 points, Normal

Spacing Guidelines

Margins

  • Top margin: 1.5 inches
  • Bottom margin: 1 inch
  • Left margin: 1.5 inches
  • Right margin: 1 inch

For paragraph indentation, indent 8 characters from the normal alignment by starting at the 9th character position.

For line spacing, maintain a single line space throughout the report, including between chapter titles, major headings, and subheadings.

Starting a New Page

If you need to start a new paragraph but have only 1 line remaining on the current page, move that content to start on the next page.
If you reach the last line of a page but have no more than 1 line remaining to complete the current paragraph, continue typing until the end of that paragraph before starting a new paragraph on the next page.

Text Positioning on the Page

When formatting text in the main content, generally align the text in a distributed manner (justified) for aesthetic purposes. Be mindful of correct wording and appropriate language. Avoid breaking words across lines (e.g., splitting "cooperative" with "co" on one line and "operative" on the next), and do not leave excessive spacing between words.

Page Numbering

  • Preliminary Section: For the preliminary section (from the inner cover page to the last page before the main content), use Arabic numerals in parentheses, such as (1), (2)...
  • Main Content: For the main content onwards, use Arabic numerals 1, 2, 3... sequentially. For the first page of each chapter, do not print the page number, but still count the page.

Page numbers for both the preliminary section and main content should be placed in the top right corner of the page, 0.5 inches from the top edge and 1 inch from the right edge.

Components of Writing and Formatting

The document is divided into the following sections:

Preliminary Section

This is a guide for preparing the beginning of the document, with the following components:

  • Abstract: A summary of research findings, not exceeding 2 pages, with supporting images of the work according to the institution's format.
  • Acknowledgments: Expression of gratitude, not exceeding 2 lines.
